The school

 

Doris Catana Beriozoff has been running the ballet school with great success since 1985. After several engagements on internationally recognized stages, she has captivated audiences and professional critics in various roles with her bravura technique and strong charisma as a long-standing first solo dancer at the Zurich Opera House. She passes all of this on to her talented students.

The focus of the ballet school is to provide talented children with serious preliminary training for later professional training. You will be prepared for the Migros scholarship and entrance exams for internationally recognized ballet schools and for ballet competitions.

The history of the school

The so-called Stadttheater Zurich had already attached a small ballet school.

When Nicolas Beriozoff came to the Zurich Opera House as ballet director in the 1960s – the so-called “ballet miracle” – he founded a theater dance school. She has given many young dance enthusiasts, girls and boys, basic dance training. She has repeatedly made her advanced graduates available for special tasks in opera and ballet.

Later, under the ballet direction of Hans Meister, the school received its own “Ballet House” at Dufourstrasse 28.

The austerity measures to which the Zurich Opera House was exposed were also the fate of the Theater-Tanzschule. She was dissolved. The opera house was no longer able to support the school. A grace period was granted twice: the first until June 30, 1984, the second until December 31, 1984. But as early as 1982, immediately after the dark clouds had begun to appear on the horizon, forces arose that wanted to save the school . A petition signed by around 150 people, including six national councillors, five cantonal councilors and two municipal councillors, was addressed to the Board of Directors of Theater AG. Although it could not revoke the decision to dissolve, it nevertheless led to the constitution of an association which, according to paragraph I of its statutes,

The association was founded on March 7 , 1985 . President was the cantonal councilor Eva Wagner , vice-president the director of the Zurich Opera House Claus Helmuth Drese. Doris Catana Beriozoff , well known to ballet fans in Zurich as a solo dancer at the Zurich Opera House, was won as artistic director .

A close cooperation was agreed with the Zurich Opera House, which has continued to this day.
